Making flights safer

Go behind the scenes with Transport Malta flight inspectors Melanie Waddelll and Ruth Stafrace and see what it takes to ensure passengers have a safe flight.

The Flight Operations Inspectorate is part of the Civil Aviation Directorate of Transport Malta. It is responsible for the approval and ongoing surveillance of the operational safety standards of Maltese air services operators (Commercial air Transport).

They perform many functions to ensure the safe transportation of airline passengers.  The inspectors can work either inside an airplane hangar, or outside, depending on the situation. Their job can be physically challenging, requiring climbing, being in uncomfortable positions to reach some of the equipment, and does involve heights. It can also be extremely stressful since their life or death decisions directly affect the safety of passengers and flight crews.
