Piers for Kappara Bridge

The contractor constructed a series of piers for the Kappara bridge.

Personnel first construct a metal structure with a series of steel rods.  They enclose the structure with a metal shutter and pour in gallons of concrete.  After a few days, the concrete dries up into a solid structure.  The constructors remove the metal shutter to reveal a solid column that will support part of the weight of the bridge.

The bridge is an integral part of the Kappara project.  It will form a wider road, increasing the capacity of the current design and at the same time separating the flow of traffic going North or South from those wishing to commute between San Ġwann and Gżira.
