Transport Malta gave access to the second flyover of Kappara this morning, reaching a milestone weeks before the official due date.
Vehicles going towards Paceville started using the newly completed West Bridge as of this morning. Both carriageways of the Kappara flyovers, northbound and southbound are now open to traffic.Southbound vehicles have another two lanes available, before the commencement of the new academic year and the surge in traffic.
Vehicles coming from Paceville are now using the East bridge, which up to yesterday was used in the opposite direction and the carriageway below the flyovers. Thus vehicles coming from Paceville area can now proceed over the flyover to keep going straight towards Valletta, while vehicles going towards Gżira can use the carriageway below the flyover and turn towards Sliema Road.
Works continue on the San Ġwann side of the project, where personnel are forming the new roundabout, building boundary walls and widening the road. The project is expected to be completed, on schedule, by the end of the year.
James Piscopo, Chairman of Transport Malta said, “we are delighted to deliver the critical part of this project ahead of schedule, in time for the busiest times of the year, the start of the new academic year.”
