Transport Malta re-opens Grant Scheme on the Purchase of New Environment-Friendly Vehicles

Following the success of the scrappage scheme launched last January 2017, the scheme has now been extended.  A further €400,000 has been allocated.

Transport Malta will be receiving further applications for the Grant which will be processed on a first come first serve basis. The initiative is aimed to encourage people to dispose of their old vehicles and to invest in new cars with lower emissions.

515 vehicles have already benefitted from the original €400,000 allocated between January and April 2017.

Vehicle owners who applied for the scheme were entitled to between €700 and €900 upon the purchase of a new M1 motor vehicle allowed to carry no more than eight passengers in addition to the driver.  Also with CO2 emissions not exceeding 130g/km, length not exceeding 4460mm and licensed for private use only whilst de-registering a vehicle in the same category.

The scheme in the form of a grant to incentivise the purchase of Battery Electric Vehicles, Hybrid vehicles and Battery Electric Quadricycles is still applicable.

Traffic counts in Pembroke

Crowd Net Ltd. will be installing video cameras at the following locations, between today and Sunday 14th May 2017, for traffic counting purposes:

1. At the junction between Triq Sant’ Andrija and Triq San Patrizju, Pembroke

2. At the junction between Triq Sant’ Andrija and Triq Falaise, Pembroke

Mrieħel Bridge

Installation of Mrieħel Bridge

As already announced, Transport Malta will be installing the bridge at Mriehel bypass in this week

This evening, between 20:00hrs and 23:00, trucks will transport the bridge from Hal Far to Mriehel. Triq Aldo Moro Marsa, direction to Paola, will be closed at times during these three hours.  Police officers and officials from Transport Malta will be escorting the trucks and guiding drivers as required along the journey.  During the night, trucks will be parked in Triq in-Negozju.

Tomorrow 25th of April, installation of bridge will be carried out on the side direction to Attard.  Works will commence at 20:00hrs and are expected to last at 05:30hrs. Mriehel bypass direction to Attard will be closed to traffic during this time.

Works will resume on Wednesday 26th of April at 20:00hrs.  Installation of bridge will be carried out on both sides, therefore, at times during the night, Mriehel bypass will be closed to traffic in both directions.  Access to traffic will open at 05:30hrs.

Resurfacing the Bugibba Promenade

Phase 1 – Maintenance work along Bugibba Promenade all the way to Qawra

Phase one of the project to resurface the road from Bugibba Promenade all the way to Qawra, will commence tonight.

Maintenance and asphalting works will start from Gillieru area direction to Bugibba square. Works in the area of the road will be carried out at night between 22:00hrs and 08:00hrs, between today and Thursday 27th April. During these four nights, this part of the road will be closed to traffic.

This project is a Eur3.5 million investment to improve the roads in Bugibba and Qawra.

Drivers are advised to seek alternative routes and follow instructions by officials on site.

 

Preparing for the installation of Mrieħel Bridge

Transport Malta will be installing the bridge at Mrieħel bypass in the coming days.  Tonight between 02:00hrs and 05:00hrs of Saturday, gantries between Ħal Far and Imrieħel will be removed in preparation to transport the bridge between the two localities.  During the three hours at night, traffic in Triq Aldo Moro in Marsa will be diverted through Triq Troubridge and Triq Prinċep Albertu

Transportation and installation of the bridge will be carried out in the coming days.  Details will be announced later.

2017 MCAST maritime certificates equivalent to Nautical Licence

Transport Malta notifies that with immediate effect and until 31st December 2017, the Certificates issued by the MCAST Maritime Institute in 2017 are considered as equivalent to the official Nautical Licence issued by Transport Malta. A copy of this Certificate should always be carried on board in lieu of such Nautical Licence. Certificates issued prior to 2017 are not considered as equivalent to the official Nautical Licence and application for the Nautical Licence must be immediately done.

Registered owners of small ships (S Register) are further reminded that, subject to no changes
made to the small ship’s details, the renewal of the registration and the presentation of the
Insurance Certificate (when applicable), can be effected by one of the methods listed hereunder:

Online: By visiting www.licenzji-tal-bahar.gov.mt. Small ships’ (S Register) owners are required to be in possession of an e-ID account. A copy of a valid Insurance Certificate may be required when applicable.

Mail: By using the Transport Malta self-addressed envelope provided with the renewal notice and sending a cheque payment payable to Transport Malta.

SSR Office: By calling at the Small Ships Register Office at the Malta Transport Centre, Xatt I-Ghassara tal-Gheneb, Marsa. Office hours are Monday to Friday (excluding Public Holidays), between 08:30hrs and 13:00hrs.

Renewal of Nautical Licences can be effected by mail using the Transport Malta self-addressed envelope provided with the registration renewal notice.

Transport Malta reminds all drivers of craft equipped with an engine or engines with a combined power of 30HP or more, must be in possession of a valid Nautical Licence.

Money Back for cars registered in 2006

A Once-Only grant for vehicles registered and licensed for personal use

Transport Malta dispatched 6,827 application forms to owners of vehicles registered between the 1st January and 31st December 2006.  Owners eligible for tax refund, are to submit the form by not later than the 28th of April 2017.

As announced during the last Budget, Government will be refunding the equivalent amount of VAT paid on the registration tax, less the one-time grant payment in 2014 of either €110 in case of vehicles or €55 in case of motorcycles.

One full and final payment by cheque will be posted to the address indicated on the application form in the coming months. Same process will apply for all the vehicles registered up to 2008.

The application form will only be processed if the form reaches Transport Malta by the 28th April 2017.  Applicants are to verify details, fill in, sign and sent the form by post or submit in person to one of the following addresses:

Documents required with the Application Form:

  1. No additional documentation is required to be submitted if a person is submitting his/her own application. 
  2. In the case of a deceased person, the heir should together with the application form fill in his/her personal details and include a declaration made by a notary public, confirming that he/she is the eligible person to apply for the Scheme.
  3. In the event of a person that registered a vehicle between the 1st January and 31st December 2006 has in the meantime changed residency and did not receive such an application then one has to contact Transport Malta on the details below.

Furthermore, vehicle owners who have registered a vehicle for private use between 1st May 2004 and 31st December 2006, are eligible for the scheme but had not applied for the grant in the past, may also submit the application form which may be obtained from Transport Malta, until the 28th April 2017.
