Laying of anti skid material in Cospicua

Triq San Franġisk Cospicua will be closed to vehicular traffic today 16 July between 20:00hrs and 06:00hrs, due to laying of anti skid material.

Triq l-Inkurunazzjoni will be set to two way traffic until completion of works. Vehicular traffic from Triq Għajn Dwieli to Cospicua centre and Senglea will be diverted onto Triq San Ġwann T’Għuxa to Triq l-Immakulata and to Triq L-Inkurunazzjoni.

Mellieħa – Temporary Road Closure due to removal of excavator from construction site

Triq Ġorg Borg Olivier in Mellieħa will be temporarily closed to traffic today 15 July between 19:00hrs and 21:00hrs, due to removal of excavation equipment from construction site.

All vehicles, including public transport coming from Għadira, will be diverted onto Dawret il-Mellieħa and Triq Louis Wettinger. All vehicular traffic including public transport,coming from Triq it-Telgħa ta’ Selmun in Xemxija will be diverted onto Triq Louis Wettinger.

Monitoring Marsaxlokk Bay for possible contamination

Transport Malta is monitoring Marsaxlokk Bay for possible diesel contamination

Transport Malta officials are monitoring Marsaxlokk Bay for possible diesel contamination following yesterday’s diesel spill that was reported at around 1930hrs. The oil spill happened during loading operations on M/T Santa Maria at Has-Saptan Fuelling Dolphin. 

Transport Malta officers were dispatched on site to ensure that immediate action was taken by vessel operator to clean up. Booms were deployed and diesel spill was contained to minimise spread of oil. The clean up operation continued through the night.

Fortunately, due to prevailing wind conditions, no oil pollution was noticed along the coastline from Qajjenza to Pretty Bay.  Transport Malta is co-ordinating the clean up operation with the assistance of the Civil Protection Department personnel and equipment.  Clean up is still ongoing around the vessel and the area of the Dolphin. 

New traffic arrangements for Coast Road Project

Coast Road – New Traffic Arrangements

The coast road project has reached a new phase.  New traffic arrangements will be in effect as from tomorrow at 10:00 am.

Qawra Junction

The connection through Triq J.F. Kennedy to the Coast road will be closed for approximately 3 weeks.

Vehicles going towards Triq il-Kosta, will be diverted onto a new carriageway at Kennedy Drive.

Vehicles exiting Qawra / Buġibba and going towards Burmarrad / Xemxija will go through a temporary roundabout in Triq il-Wileġ and then through Triq il-Lampuki, Triq iċ-Ċagħaq, Triq il-Mosta and onto the Buġibba roundabout.

Asphalting in part of Triq il-Kosta.

The section of road between the junction with Triq t’Alla w’Ommu and the junction with Triq ir-Ramla will be closed on:

Tuesday 14th July 2015 10:00hrs – Wednesday 15th July 2015 05:00hrs

Thursday 16th July 2015 10:00hrs – Friday 17th July 2015 05:00hrs

Vehicles from Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq towards St Paul’s Bay will be diverted through Triq ir-Ramla, Triq Santa Marija, and onto Triq is-Salini. This diversion has been in place for the past months and will not change.

Vehicles from St Paul’s Bay towards Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq will be diverted through Triq is-Salini, Triq Santa Marija and Triq ir-Ramla, in order to access Triq il-Kosta.

 Overtaking along the Coast Road, Triq Santa Marija and Triq ir-Ramla is not permitted. Please follow the road signage and proceed with caution.

Feast Celebration in Qormi

The Park & Ride in Marsa and Triq l-Iljun Ħal-Qormi will be closed to  traffic for safety reasons due to fireworks for the celebration of the feast of St. Sebastian.

Triq l-Iljun Ħal Qormi will be closed from Monday 13 to Friday 17 July, except Tuesday 14 July, from 20:00hrs onwards

Marsa Park & Ride and Triq l-Iljun Ħal Qormi will be closed on Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 July from 17:00hrs onwards.

President\’s Cruise for Solidarity

The Office of the President organised the \’Cruise for Solidarity’ in aid of The Malta Community Chest Fund this morning.

More than 200 boats gathered in Valletta Grand Harbour at 10:30. The flotilla proceeded to St Paul\’s Bay.

Transport Malta supported the event and helped the organisers throughout.

Maritime-industry-related-works in Dock 7

There will be ongoing maritime-industry-related-works at Dock 7.  The road through the dock will not be accessible for vehicles on Saturdays. 

The alternative route will however remain open for traffic on weekdays.

Gżira Feast

Triq ix-Xatt, il-Gżira will be closed to vehicular traffic due to the celebration of the feast of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, as follows:

  • Friday 10th July between 22:00hrs and 01:00hrs
  • Saturday 11th July between 20:00hrs and 01:00hrs
  • Sunday 12th July between 13:30hrs and 16:00hrs
  • Sunday 12th July between 20:00hrs and 24:00hrs


Motorists coming from Imsida are highly advised to proceed to Triq Mikiel Anton Vassalli to avoid traffic congestion in Tas-Sliema centre.

Public Transport:
Buses will be diverted from Ta’ Xbiex to Triq Testaferrata and Rue D’Argens.

Easier access to Coast Road

Road between il-Magħtab and Triq il-Kosta open for traffic in both directions.

 Triq ir-Ramla, that connects il-Magħtab to Triq il-Kosta, will be open for traffic in both directions as from tomorrow afternoon.

The road was restricted to one direction because of the ongoing works on Triq il-Kosta.

Overtaking along this road is not permitted; motorists are advised to follow road signage and proceed with caution.

Maltese plane emergency landing

Italian Aviation Authorities investigate Maltese plane’s emergency landing.

The Civil Aviation Directorate within Transport Malta is collaborating with the Italian Aviation Authorities in their investigation of an incident that happened this morning. The aircraft involved, a Tecnam P2002JF, with registration 9H-PPL is registered in Malta.

The aircraft suffered a rough running engine while on a routine exercise. The plane performed a precautionary landing in a field in the vicinity of Vizzini, Comiso.  The pilot, the only one on board, is safe and well while the aircraft undercarriage sustained damage.

A team of investigators and related personnel have been dispatched on site by the Italian authorities in order to conduct their investigation.
